Wartime Manufacturing

Kohler Co. was twice honored with an Army-Navy E Award for “excellence in production” during World World II. The prestigious award was given to only five percent of more than 85,000 American companies involved in producing wartime support.

Gracious
Origins

The American Club®, true to its name, ignited a love of country that has echoed for generations. Founded by Walter J. Kohler, Sr. with the belief that workers deserved more than just wages, The American Club created a safe haven for immigrant workers to nourish their bodies with wholesome food and nurture their minds and souls through education, nature, leisure, and camaraderie.

Salute To
Service

Many Kohler Co. associates entered active military service, including those who served abroad during times of conflict. Throughout history, Kohler Co. has found various ways to honor, support, and commemorate these brave men and women.

Old Abe

At the entrance to the garden stands a true-to-scale cast-iron replica of Old Abe, famed battlefield mascot to the Eighth Wisconsin Regiment during the Civil War. Kaspar Albrecht, an Austrian architect and close family friend of the Kohler family, sculpted the piece. To this day, the original basswood Old Abe stands guard in the Wisconsin Room at The American Club®.

Excellence in Service

Herbert V. Kohler, Sr. was posthumously awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara by the Wisconsin National Guard Field Artillery in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity, professional competence, moral character, and selflessness.

Helping
Hands

Delivering Kohler’s mission of providing gracious living to those touched by its products and services is primarily dependent on the character, dedication, and tenacity of Kohler associates. Kohler has a history of encouraging civilian support for the military.
