From the Kohler Archives to LACMA

A century of imagining tomorrow’s home, with three pieces straight from our Archives.

For more than 150 years, Kohler Co. has helped shape the spaces where life happens. Today, we’re proud to support “Home of the Future, 1925-1985: Designing Domestic Utopias” at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), an exhibition exploring how designers, architects, brands, and innovators imagined the future of the home over six transformative decades.

The exhibition features more than 260 artifacts that trace evolving visions of domestic life, from mechanized kitchens to connected living spaces. Among them are three pieces straight from the Kohler Archives-the groundbreaking Electric Sink dishwasher of the 1920s, the 1930s one-piece toilet and the iconic Environment of the 1970s, a fully enclosed bathtub that promised total sensory immersion.

As the exhibition reflects on the dreams that shaped yesterday’s homes, we’re inspired by the opportunities that lie ahead. From pioneering solutions in the early 20th century to creating products and experiences that support modern living today, Kohler continues to blend heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation to reimagine what’s possible.
